From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in power within the urban setting.
Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of characters who will split off from the main group to begin their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.
Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might look out of place, but the developments of the third episode show why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
First, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.
Casimir then cleared his debts and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- But, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could help the party reach places they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character swore a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The cleric turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- Teor is marked for death by the clan.
This means them few options but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.
